       BOSTON — Two powerful bombs exploded near the finish line of theBoston Marathon on Monday afternoon, killing three people, including an 8-year-old child, and injuring more than 100, as one of this city’s most cherished rites of spring was transformed from a scene of cheers and sweaty triumph to one of screams and carnage.

    Condolences to the families of those who were killed, to those who were injured, to those who witnessed this senseless brutality, to the people of Boston. Gratitude for the first responders, to the people on the scene who helped, to the people around the country and world who have written words of sympathy and support. Determination to do more to help create a non-violent world from Boston to Japan. We pray to God to help you all.
